About CoupleToyLab

CoupleToyLab is run by a small team that got tired of couples-toy reviews that rank on feature lists and never address the one thing that decides whether an app-controlled toy is any good: does the connection actually hold?

So we built a standardized way to rate it — the Sync Score. To be clear about what it is: we have not physically tested these toys. Every review and score is based on published specs and how each connection works (Bluetooth pairing, internet relay, two-way sync), plus published app features, official store pricing, and the customer ratings brands publish on their own stores — applied with the same rubric to every toy. The rankings are independent.

We publish under the CoupleToyLab Team name to protect personal privacy, as is standard in this category. Reviews are not paid for, sponsored, or influenced by brands.

Every toy on CoupleToyLab is rated with the same rubric, using published information rather than hands-on testing:

• Sync Score (0–10) — our headline rating. Latency, stability, range, and pattern fidelity are scored from published specs and how each connection works (Bluetooth pairing, internet relay, two-way sync). It is an editorial rating, not a lab measurement. See the full Sync Score methodology.
• Noise pips (1–5) — our editorial estimate of loudness, from 1 (quietest) to 5 (audible from another room) — not a decibel measurement; we haven't measured it, so treat pips as a relative guide, not a guarantee.
• Build — published materials, charging method, and water-resistance rating.
• Value — official store price relative to the published feature set.

For an app-controlled toy, the connection is the product. The Sync Score is our standardized 0–10 rating of how reliable that connection is likely to be. We are not aware of another connection-reliability rating in the category. It's the average of four editorially scored axes:

Affiliate commissions do not influence our rankings. Products are ranked purely on our published rubric — led by the Sync Score. We have never accepted payment for placement, free products in exchange for coverage, or sponsored placement from any brand.

If a toy is unreliable, we say so. If a toy doesn't make our list, it's because it didn't earn it.
